Why South Korea

Top Travel Reasons

It is well known that South Korea has one of the most challenging and competitive education systems in the world. Consequently, only the best and brightest students make it into the medical profession; most go on to become members of an American Medical Association.

In South Korea, nearly every doctor is specialized in their given field due to government regulations. This helps facilitate superb care compared to other developed countries.

South Korea boasts some of the most state-of-the-art medical facilities in the world. For example, South Korea is ranked third for availability of high-end medical equipment in the OECD. That is better than the USA, Switzerland and Australia! This, in combination with the government’s strict regulation of hospitals, ensures that South Korea’s medical facilities are some of the best in the world.

Type ‘Plastic surgery capital of the world’ into Google, and you won’t be shocked to find nearly every article pointing to South Korea. South Korea has the world’s highest plastic surgery per capita! Nearly a quarter of the South Korean population has had some sort of procedure, demonstrating the overall trust in the plastic surgery capability of South Korea.

While medical services in South Korea remain top class, the prices are around 20% off that compared to other first-world countries. Due to a strong infrastructure and healthy economy, South Korea is capable of providing world-class medical care at affordable prices. This is due to the hyper-competitive medical market of South Korea. When so many world-class doctors are competing for business, prices are reasonable while the quality remains the best!

South Korea is recognized for its advanced medical technology and quality healthcare services, but whether it is a better medical tourism destination than Turkey or Thailand depends on individual needs, treatment specifics, and cost considerations.

In addition to receiving medical treatment, you can explore South Korea’s rich cultural heritage, visit historical sites like Gyeongbokgung Palace, shop in vibrant districts like Myeongdong, enjoy nature at places like Namsan Tower and Jeju Island, and savor delicious Korean cuisine. South Korea is very beautiful especially during spring and fall. We recommend this website for itinerary advice!

Many hospitals and clinics in South Korea have English-speaking staff or try to provide translation services to assist international patients, so the language barrier is usually manageable compare to 10 years ago. However compare to other countries, it is less common for Koreans to speak English naturally, as almost 99% of populations in Korea is Korean who are speaking Korean primarily.

Coverage depends on your insurance policy and procedures you are getting; for example, some international insurance plans may cover treatments abroad, some insurance plans only cover medical treatment but not aesthetic treatment. So it’s essential to check with your insurance provider beforehand. If you need documents from a clinic, please feel free to ask them. Many clinics in Korea provide necessary documents you need with very little charge or even free-of-charge depending on situation.

Many patients do not require a visa, but depending on your nationality, you may need a medical visa (C-3-3) to enter South Korea for medical treatment. it’s recommended to do the research online or reach out to South Korean embassy in your country to inquire about the latest visa information. For the latest visa information, please refer to K-ETA website.
