Travel to Korea without Quarantine

It has been more than two years after the onset of the pandemic, and South Korea is opening the border gradually during last 2 months. Korea is now ready to make travel a lot easier for international tourists. I had a friend who came to Korea from Canada. He had to quarantine for 14 days in Korea and then another week back in Canada. Of course this was few months ago, now all you need to do is pack up you things and buy a flight ticket. Starting April 1, fully vaccinated travellers who registered their vaccination history in Korea’s Q-Code website will be able to enter the country without quarantine.

Who can skip the quarantine?

Fully vaccinated travellers can skip the quarantine. Fully vaccinated means your third-dose vaccine series was completed at least 14 days before your trip. If more than 180 days have passed after initial vaccination series, people will need a booster shot to be considered fully vaccinated.

What should I do?

Overseas travellers will have to receive a QR code through the Q-Code system. So you can use this QR code scanned at immigration, according to the Korea Tourism Organisation website. The Q-Code system will ask for information such as a passport number, departure country, airline, phone number and vaccine records. QR code can be retained from https://overseas.mofa.go.kr/dk-en/brd/m_7038/view.do?seq=761156&page=1

You can follow the guideline of Q-Code (Quarantine Covid19 Defence) System prior to departing so you don’t have to rush things at the airport on arrival.

Upon arrival, passengers may also face “temperature screening, health questionnaires, quarantine and COVID-test informations depending on the departure country, visa status, and nationality” upon arrival.

Unvaccinated travelers, as well as all travelers from Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, and Myanmar are still required to quarantine regardless of vaccination status. So please plan your trip accordingly if you are coming from those 4 countries. And all of this information could be updated in the website below.

Upon arrival In Korea

As of May 31st, 2022, you will need to wear a mask in indoor, but not outdoors anymore. Therefore, it is still against the law if you take the mask off at some places like the subway or bus. Scanning QR code in malls, restaurants and other facilities to provide visit informations is no longer necessary as the government lifted that a while ago.

During travel

So you don’t have to worry about keeping your mask on. But still, you will see most of Koreans wear masks as Omicron is highly contagious. In addition, the presidential election day was just two months ago. There is still the possibility related government rules could change. But it is true that we came to the next phase, people believe that cases will gradually decrease. So if you plan to come to Korea for cosmetic surgery, it would be a good time to make your reservation, as it’s getting very busy.
